Role Description

As the Subway Manager, you will be the driving force of the Subway outlet at EHSU. You will be encouraged to understand our customer to maximise sales and exceed targets, and to look for new innovative opportunities to excite our target market and grow contribution. With an eye for detail and high street trends, you will ensure that our outlet is relevant, offers value for money, student friendly prices and be truly student led. You will represent the Union internally and externally and build relationships with both existing and new partners.

 

Main Responsibilities

Retail Management – As the Subway Manager, you will oversee daily operations, drive performance, and ensure the profitability of our Subway outlet and regularly report to the Commercial Services Manager. You will ensure legal compliance and target service level improvements.

Stock Control – You will handle ordering, receiving, and pricing of stock, ensuring correct gross profit and stock rotation. Conducting stocktakes, addressing variances, and minimising shrinkage and wastage are essential duties.

Service Delivery – Leading exceptional service delivery that meets Subway brand standards, maintaining high standards of cleanliness, and addressing customer feedback efficiently are crucial responsibilities. You will also develop policies and utilise student feedback for ongoing improvements.

Financial Management – Financial management includes leading best practices, reporting significant variances, maintaining financial controls, and ensuring the Finance Department receives prompt financial information. You will also lead on submitting compliance reports to Subway.

People Management – People management involves providing leadership, direction, and coaching to staff, recruiting, training, and developing staff, conducting performance reviews, and identifying training needs. You will schedule labour effectively, motivate the team to deliver excellent customer service, conduct performance management, and ensure systems and procedures are updated.

Business Development – You will develop marketing and communication plans to attract customers, ensuring effective advertising and liaising with relevant departments for promotional communication. Maintaining outstanding store condition and visual merchandising standards, adhering to Health and Safety legislation, and ensuring risk assessments are conducted are key responsibilities.

General – You will comply with Health and Safety and GDPR legislation, complete relevant training, and adhere to Union policies. Participation in the staff development review process, undertaking professional development training, and working towards achieving • the Union’s strategic aims are also important. Availability to work weekends and evenings as needed is required. This list is not exhaustive and other duties commensurate with the role may be assigned at the discretion of Senior Management.

  • Recruitment /induction and training/development of employees in line with the Subway® brand’s training requirements – you will lead by example!
  • Creating and managing the staff schedule
  • Checking in deliveries, order matching and daily banking
  • Prepare required paperwork in relation to stock and sales. Prepare employee pay and timesheets
  • Manage cash balances and minimise wastage
  • Ensure 100% compliance in accordance to Subway® and council guidelines
  • Perform inventory management and stock control including weekly stock take and reports
  • Analyse the Weekly Sales & Inventory Report to improve the business
  • Direct and undertake housekeeping activities such as maintaining store cleanliness and presentation
  • Implement in store marketing material and POP in line with campaigns
  • Ensure safety procedures are followed to prevent injury
  • Provide a safe work environment for employees and customers
  • Promote and encourage a high level of customer service amongst employees
  • Handle unresolved and/or escalated customer complaints
  • Deliver a high standard of service when dealing with products, sales, inquiries and catering for customer needs.

You may currently be working as a Catering Manager, Store Manager or Restaurant Manager – or maybe you’re an experienced Supervisor, Assistant Manager or Deputy Manager looking to progress your career.
