An Elective with a Difference at Medical Protection Society
We are offering a unique opportunity to spend your elective with the Medical Protection Society (MPS), the world’s leading member-owned not for profit protection organisation for doctors, dentists, and healthcare professionals.
At MPS, we protect the careers, reputations, and financial security of doctors, dentists, healthcare professionals, and organisations around the world. We assist doctors and other members with the wide range of legal and ethical problems including clinical negligence claims, complaints, medical and dental council inquiries, legal and ethical dilemmas, disciplinary procedures, inquests and fatal accident inquiries. With regards to clinical negligence claims in the UK, we provide assistance for claims other than those related to NHS treatment that is covered by a state-backed scheme. MPS has over 300,000 members around the world including the UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, the Caribbean and Bermuda.
You will spend your time working alongside doctors and lawyers who work for the organisation understanding how we support our members and help them navigate the ethical, professional and legal challenges of modern medical practice.
Your time with us will be incredibly varied but is likely to include the opportunity to attend member meetings, observe our phone support service, follow the processes of an inquest from statement writing, legal support and, potentially, attend an inquest itself. You may choose to spend time in our London or Leeds Office. There may also be the potential to take on medicolegal projects and write articles for publication.
We support doctors when they are going through some of the toughest times of their career and by spending time with us not only will you appreciate the medicolegal issues doctors face in their career but, importantly, understand what help and support MPS can offer.
If you would like to apply for this opportunity, please click ‘apply’ and upload your CV and short covering letter. Your cover letter should include why you want to do an elective at MPS, which office you would like to attend (Leeds, LS11 or London, SE1), what area/s of interest you would like to be involved in and what dates you would like the elective to run from/to.
If you have any questions about the elective opportunity at MPS, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Becca Whiticar, Medicolegal Consultant via careers@medicalprotection.org
