Hybrid Working

We have a Hybrid approach to working here at Starling – our preference is that you’re located within a commutable distance of one of our offices so that we’re able to interact and collaborate in person. We don’t like to mandate how much you visit the office and work from home, that’s to be agreed upon between you and your manager.

About the role

Here at Starling we are growing, and our first line information technology and security operational risk team is looking for someone passionate about making a difference working closely with domain and subject matter experts to ensure that Information Technology risk is effectively monitored and managed.

As a member of our first line risk team, you will be responsible for executing day to day activities facilitating and supporting the identification, analysis and monitoring of information technology risks.  Supporting risk assessments and working collaboratively to capture and inform options and recommendations for treatment of risk.

What you’ll get to do:

  • Actively support risk processes and collation of risk indicators.
  • Helping maintain risk registers, monitor and track day to day risk exposure.
  • Working across the information technology teams to ensure risk is identified, captured and communicated as appropriate.
  • Facilitate and support stakeholder advisory and risk reviews.
  • Work collaboratively to ensure effective maintenance and update of risk registers.
  • Working collaboratively to develop, mature and continuously improve our information technology risk procedures.
  • Engage with domain and subject matter experts to identify, analyse and assess risk scenarios and support stakeholders in reporting.
  • Contribute to and participate in the successful delivery of a variety of risk management and resilience projects aligned to our overarching strategic roadmap and risk appetite.
  • Support continual improvement activities within the team.


  • Have a strong analytic ability to look at complex business processes, identify opportunities for and where appropriate recommend business process improvements.
  • Have a pragmatic approach and be able to work collaboratively in a technology driven environment to develop proportionate response plans.
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of the operational regulatory environment.
  • Take responsibility and do the right thing for customers, colleagues and partners.
  • We are looking for individuals with experience across one or more of these areas. It is not expected that you will have worked in all of these.

The following skills and experience are desirable: 

  • Experience working within financial services or technology risk management. Alternatively, experience in business operations teams or wider risk management.
  • Experience of information technology systems and processes including cloud.
  • Experience working with key stakeholders, developing working relationships and providing insightful management reporting / information. 
  • Good attention to detail plus analysis and presentation skills
  • An innovative mindset and general interest  in information technology, automation, and development (including coding).
  • Flexibility in your approach to meeting goals as part of the wider team.

Interview process

Interviewing is a two way process and we want you to have the time and opportunity to get to know us, as much as we are getting to know you! Our interviews are conversational and we want to get the best from you, so come with questions and be curious. In general you can expect the below, following a chat with one of our Talent Team:

  • 45 min interview with the hiring manager
  • 45 min interview with our CISO and member of the People Team
