About the role
We are seeking for a motivated junior technician to join our dynamic research team. The successful candidate will work in the Hanna group, led by Professor George Hanna, supporting ongoing projects focused on analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) using mass spectrometry, for the development of non-invasive tests, with primary application in neurological diseases and cancer research.
The position is funded by Medical Research Council (MRC) as part of the VIBES (Volatile Non-Invasive Biomarkers of Epileptic Seizures) clinical trial, led by Dr Ilaria Belluomo. As part of the Hanna team, you will join a collaborative and dynamic group, working closely with internal and external collaborators.
What you would be doing
Your responsibilities will be: (i) preparing the sampling equipment used within breath and skin swab analysis workflow, (ii) ensuring that laboratory information management system (LIMS) is kept up to date in line with the quality management system, (iii) analysing thermal desorption tube by gas chromatography – flame ionisation detector (GC-FID) to ensure cleanliness prior to patient sampling (iv) use of direct sampling techniques, such as SIFT-MS, for method development projects (v) maintaining the laboratory suite to ensure GLP.
You will help in the day to day running of VOC analytical laboratory with a focus on the breath analysis workflow.
What we are looking for
You are expected to hold A-level degree in relevant scientific subjects or equivalent vocational qualifications, plus work experience, preferably in a relevant technical/scientific role or the equivalent work experience in a relevant technical or scientific role.
