Are you ready to start an exciting career in the construction materials industry? Join us as an Intermediate Apprentice Operative (Readymix RMX) and take your first steps towards becoming a skilled Plant Supervisor.
As an apprentice in our Materials and Building Products team, you’ll gain hands-on experience across our manufacturing processes, working with products like concrete, aggregate, asphalt, and building materials. Over the course of your apprenticeship, you’ll develop in-depth product knowledge, learn to meet technical specifications, and ensure the production of high-quality products for our customers.
You’ll also build a solid foundation in Safety, Health, and Environmental policies, preparing you for a rewarding and responsible role in our industry.
Role Responsibilities
During the structured training programme, you’ll acquire the skills and experience necessary to progress into a Plant Supervisor role, responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a ready-mix concrete plant in the Midlands area.
Upon completing the training, your key responsibilities will include:
- Leading and supervising RMX operations, ensuring the safety of all visitors, contractors, and customers.
- Delivering toolbox talks to staff, mixer drivers, and contractors.
- Managing daily production tasks, such as ordering stocks, completing inspections, reporting defects, and maintaining records.
- Manufacturing concrete efficiently and ensuring its quality by adhering to set procedures.
- Driving operational performance through reporting and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensuring plant availability by conducting inspections, following the maintenance schedule, and reporting defects.
- Taking responsibility for your safety and that of others on-site.
- Maintaining site cleanliness and organisation to a high standard.

Qualifications and Education
- Preferably GCSEs in English and Maths (A-C or 9-4); however, grades D or 3 are acceptable as additional support can be provided by the college.
